An explosion at a commercial building in North Liberty resulted in several injuries, including a firefighter, according to a press release.

The North Liberty Fire Department was called to the building at 390 Herky Street at 11 p.m. Monday night. When they arrived, they discovered multiple overhead doors hanging from the exterior of the building. The sprinkler system had been activated and the south wall was bowed out and the roof had lifted from the building, according to the news release. They also discovered one person suffering from serious burns.

Responders entered the building and located the active fire. Firefighters ventilated the structure and all utilities were immediately cut. The news release states that the burn victim was transported to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The Johnson County Ambulance Service also treated a firefighter for injuries. They were also transported to UIHC before eventually being released.

Fire departments from Solon and Coralville assisted in the blaze. The State Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of the explosion.
