Popular Mexican Restaurant Opening 2nd Location in Cedar Rapids

In the restaurant business, it doesn't take long for a closing to turn into an opening. A popular Italian restaurant that closed recently on 1st Ave. in Cedar Rapids will be replaced by, you guessed it, a Mexican restaurant.

Back on June 11th, Via Sofia's surprised many by announcing that they would be closing its location at 1125 1st. Avenue SE in Cedar Rapids. The closing was immediate. Via Sofia's still has two other Eastern Iowa locations, off Center Point Road in Cedar Rapids and in Cedar Falls. But just as suddenly as the closing was announced, news has broken of the restaurant that will take its place.

4 Hermanos Mexican Food will soon be open along 1st. Avenue in Cedar Rapids. The popular Mexican restaurant already has a location at 1725 Boyson Road in Hiawatha. Fans of the restaurant were initially concerned that 4 Hermanos was moving, but that is not the case. This will be the second location in the Corridor and the new restaurant will feature larger, expanded menu.

4 Hermanos opened its Hiawatha location on December 19th, 2023 according to the Cedar Rapids Gazette. The menu features like tacos, burritos, nachos, enchiladas, quesadillas, salads and more. They have a drive-through and also feature carry-out service. They continue to be one of the most popular Mexican restaurants in the area and have a perfect 5.0 rating on Facebook.

Yes, you'll no doubt hear jokes about another Mexican restaurant appearing in the Cedar Rapids area. But when the food is as popular and as highly rated as 4 Hermanos, that is no joke! No opening date has been set for the new Cedar Rapids location.
