
Iowa’s New Transfer Portal QB Will Undergo Serious Surgery
Iowa's shiny new toy at the quarterback position has a bit of a problem. He won't be able to throw a football until June.
Mark Gronowski committed to the University of Iowa after four successful seasons with the South Dakota State. He was a four-year starter and won 2 FCS National Championships. When he entered the transfer portal he was one of the most highly sought after quarterbacks in the nation. He made Hawkeye nation happy when he decided to play his final year of college football in Iowa City. But on3 reports that Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz broke some bad health news about Gronowski last Friday.
on3 reports that Gronowski will undergo surgery and miss significant time. Just how much time? Ferentz stated that Gronowski won't even be able to throw a football until June. Iowa officials will not confirm what injury the quarterback has, but Ferentz stated that it is a "common" issue. on3 reports that Gronowski will miss spring practice recovering from the injury but will take part in other team activities.
According to a statement by Ferentz, Gronowski played last season at South Dakota State with the injury. He could have continued to play through it but is instead having surgery to correct the problem this offseason according to on3. Ferentz stated that he has full confidence that Gronowski will be fully rehabbed by the time Iowa's summer program begins.
