The Iowa Hawkeye football program has lost a five-star recruit from the class of 2025.

Hawk Central reports that class of 2025 specialist Scott Starzyk has decomitted from the Iowa football program. He made the announcement on social media Monday. Starzyk is the #1 kicker and #6 punter in the class of 2025 according to Kohl's Kicking. He was ranked as a 5-star recruit in both kicking and punting. Hawk Central reports that he planned on going to Iowa as a kicker but also to punt when asked to. But Iowa is set at punter with Rhys Dakin who is still just a freshman.

Starzyk, who played his high school football at The Woodlands High School in Texas, initially chose Iowa over the likes of Mississippi State, Syracuse, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma according to Hawk Central. Iowa offered him a full scholarship which it doesn't always do for kickers coming out of high school. Starzyk committed to Iowa in July.

Hawk Central reports that the announcement from Starzyk leaves Iowa without a clear heir apparent to current kicker Drew Stevens. Stevens has one year of eligibility left after the 2024 season. The only other kicker on Iowa's roster is preferred walk-on Tripp Woody. Look for Iowa to recruit another kicker, or hit the transfer portal in the offseason.
