The tents are up. It is officially fireworks season in Iowa. And while the explosive products are legal to buy throughout the state, where you are allowed to set them off varies greatly.

Fireworks were illegal in the state of Iowa for decades. Then our long nightmare was over and they became legal to purchase several years ago. But that first year saw many Iowans go nuts over their new right to blow stuff up. Fireworks were set off at all times of the day. Neighborhoods sounded like war zones. So the state allowed cities to enact their own ordinances that would control where fireworks could be sold, and if they could be set off within city limits. It has left Iowans a bit in the dark and confused.
