Can you believe that the Easter holiday is coming up this Sunday? It's true...I checked my calendar just to make sure. While there is no hard and fast rule on what you have to serve during your Easter dinner, ham seems to be one of the most popular choices. Just in time for Easter, Hy-Vee is stepping up and handing out hundreds of FREE hams to anyone who might need one.

CBS2 reports that Hy-Vee Food Stores is partnering with HACAP to hand out the holiday hams. They're also working with local law enforcement too, to make sure the ham handout goes smoothly! The giveaway is all part of Hy-Vee's Hams for the Holidays program which saw some 6,500 Hormel hams donated to Feeding America food banks in the company's state region. Here is when you can pick up your FREE ham this week in Cedar Rapids!

  • Wednesday, April 5th, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids.

The giveaway is all part of Hy-Vee's 100 Million Meals Challenge that was launched earlier this year, according to CBS2. The initiative looks to provide 100 million meals to Feeding America Network food banks across the Midwest. Hy-Vee will be handing out 350 hams on April 5th, so get there early for your best chance at the free holiday meal!

If you are not in need of a ham for your family, you are encouraged to make a donation to Feed America. Thousands suffer from food insecurity every day. Thank you, Hy-Vee, and Happy Easter!
