Brain's Daughter Visits the Famous Beach From The Goonies

The 1985 movie 'The Goonies' holds a special place in my wife's heart. The film is pure 1980s nostalgia and one of Steven Spielberg's top films. My wife LOVES 'The Goonies' and some of the places where the movie was filmed are close to where her brother lives on the West Coast.

Visiting Astoria, Oregon

My brother-in-law lives just outside Seattle, Washington. A short drive south will take you to the town of Astoria, Oregon. Much of 'The Goonies' was filmed in the town, including the jail escape scene that starts the movie, and of course, the iconic house featured in the film. Our family visited the area back in 2018.

Unfortunately, when we were there in 2018, the owners of 'The Goonies' house did not let people get very close for pictures. That has since changed, and the home has been turned into a proper Goonies mecca!

Going To Goonies Beach

Something else we didn't have time for back in 2018 was to visit another iconic site from the film, Cannon Beach. That is where the final scene of the movie takes place, as the pirate ship appears from the cove and disappears into the mist. A large rock formation, called Haystack Rock, is also used to line up the doubloon that leads Mikey and the gang to the treasure!

My daughter Carly spent several weeks with my brother-in-law and took another trip to Astoria. This time, they made it to Cannon Beach and got a picture that fans of 'The Goonies' dream of!
