Last weekend's 20th Annual Fish-O-Rama at Robbins Lake at Ellis Park in Cedar Rapids was a huge success, with more tagged fish caught than any other year in the history of the charitable event.

Fish-O-Rama, which is a fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Corridor, had over 1,200 participants last weekend, and they raised almost $165,000. That money will benefit kids and teens through the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Corridor's daily youth development programming.

The 1,200-plus anglers caught more than 1,000 tagged catfish from Robbins Lake. That's a record for the 20 years the event has been held. Tagged fish were good for everything from bicycles to games, televisions to kayaks, gift cards, and more.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Corridor provide daily activities for approximately 300 youth in the Corridor, and Fish-O-Rama is a big part of making that possible.

Late last month, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Corridor announced plans for a new facility next to the First Congressional United Church of Christ. That's located at the intersection of 16th Street and Washington Avenue SE.

The new building will include a game room, cafeteria, gymnasium, teaching kitchen, art room, music room with DJ booth, and an education center and STEM lab which will help youth develop in Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math.

John Tursi, executive director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Corridor, says they've raised $8.2 million of the $9 million needed to construct the building below. It will be known as the Busse Unit. More information is available here.
