Now that the month of March is finally over, so is 2023 Pulled Pork Madness. Every year, the Iowa Pork Producers put on a bracket-style competition to determine which Iowa restaurant serves the best pulled pork in the state. The competition began on March 13th with 16 restaurants from different regions, and after several rounds of votes, only one remains. The 2023 Pulled Pork Madness champion is...

The Flying Elbow in Marshalltown!

The Flying Elbow is a popular restaurant that is known for its burgers and sandwiches. In fact, it won the Iowa Beef Industry Council's Best Burger Competition in 2022! The Classic Pulled Pork Sandwich on The Flying Elbow's menu contains their Cherrywood-smoked pulled pork, pickles, and BBQ sauce, but there are a couple of other options if you're feeling more adventurous. The Pig Show is made up of pulled pork, cheddar & Havarti cheese, mac n' cheese, BBQ sauce, and green onion, and the Razor's Edge is topped with shaved pit ham, Havarti cheese, Chico BBQ sauce, pickles, and pickled red onion on jalapeno cheddar cornbread. You can even top your fries with pulled pork! YUM!

The Flying Elbow was initially pit up against Bubba-Q’s in Ottumwa and then advanced to the Elite 8 to take on Sugarfire Smoke House in Cedar Rapids. In the Final Four, The Flying Elbow and Backwoods Bar and Grill in McGregor went head to head, with The Flying Elbow coming out on top. The final round was between them and The Lucky Pig Pub & Grill in Ogden.

Congratulations to The Flying Elbow for being named the 2023 champion! The restaurant joins a list of other great Iowa restaurants, including the 2022 winner Starbeck’s Smokehouse in Cedar Falls and the 2021 champ Smokin’ Butt Barbeque in Davenport.
