About Babi's Holiday House

Babi's Holiday House is a new pop-up shop that recently opened on the Pohoda Patio, which is located right next to I'll Meet You There in Cedar Rapids' Czech Village. It took the place of Heartland Supply Company inside of the very first pop-up shop off of the sidewalk on 16th Ave SW. Babi's Holiday House was named in honor of the owner's Babi (pronounced 'buh-bee,' the Czech word for 'grandma') who is described as "the heart of Christmas in our family." A social media post from the business reads:

"She raised six kids and somehow still found the time to make the holidays feel like pure magic. From the decorations to the traditions, she was the maker of so many of our favorite Christmas memories.

Babi’s Holiday House was inspired by her and the kind of Christmas magic that stays with you long after childhood.

Because at the end of the day, it was never really about the decorations. It was about the memories made around them."

Opening its doors on October 1st, Babi's Holiday House is hard to miss. Although it's small, the space is completely decked out with tinsel, ornaments, lights, and a full-sized Christmas tree, which are visible from the windows as you walk by. I know it caught my eye when I passed it over the weekend!

Babi's Holiday House offers a rotating selection new Christmas and holiday home decor "with a nostalgic twist." Current offerings include kitchenware, candles, framed artwork, throw pillows, blankets, fun ornaments, figurines, and more. When is it Open?

According to the signage on the door, Babi's Holiday House is now open Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Be sure to stop in the next time you're shopping in the Czech Village!

What Happened to Heartland Supply Company?

Don't worry! Heartland Supply Company may have left the Pohoda Patio, but they haven't gone far! The local business is moving into the building at 76 16th Ave SW, which is right next door to The Barkery. There isn't an official opening date for the shop yet, but the Heartland Supply Company website says that they hope to begin welcoming customers this month.

In the meantime, Heartland Supply Company has several other Corridor locations you can check out! There's the Uptown Shop at 1107 7th Ave in Marion, the pop-up shop at Marion's West End on 6th Ave, and they have a wide-variety of products available at Local. Palo, too. Check out the business' Facebook page HERE for future updates on the Czech Village store opening!

Other Pohoda Patio Businesses

In addition to Babi's Holiday House, there are two other pop-up shops on the Pohoda Patio that are open for business! The center shop is home to Chilled, which offers "scratch-made, locally sourced meals and seasonings," and the final shop is Lustara, a metaphysical shop with crystals, stones, jewelry, and more.
