A middle school gym teacher in Jones County has been charged with sexual exploitation of a minor for conversations he had with a 15-year-old student ten years ago.

CBS2 reports that court records show now 50-year-old Wayne Lasack, a gym teacher in the Anamosa Community School District, reached out to a teenager on Facebook in 2014. The message stated that he wanted to see a "naughty picture" of her. She stated that she was not interested and the conversation ended. CBS2 reports that the messages were sent anonymously to the Anamosa Community School District in 2018 and were reported to police.

It would take another six years for the investigation to continue. CBS2 reports that police were able to contact the former student. She sent screenshots of the conversation and was able to confirm it happened in 2014. During the initial investigation in 2018, Lasack stated that it was his wife who sent the messages as they were in the process of a messy divorce. However, police were later able to confirm she was out of state when the messages were sent and didn't have access to Lasack's phone.

A no-contact order has been put in place to protect the former student. No trial date has been set. A parent within the Anamosa School District sent an email to CBS2 that read in part that Lasack is on administrative leave and will not be allowed on school property.
