The '80s reboots keep coming, and the latest one is going to have a bit of Cedar Rapids, Iowa flavor behind it, as actor Elijah Wood has been announced as one of the producers of an upcoming "Max Headroom" reboot.

Despite its brief stint, in 1987-88 on American television, "Max Headroom" was everywhere in the latter part of the decade. He was first introduced back in 1985 and fast became a pop culture sensation that continues to get plenty of mileage today. If you're not familiar with the character, Headroom is described as such by the Des Moines Register:

The character Max Headroom was first introduced in the 1985 British cyberpunk TV movie "Max Headroom: 20 Minutes into the Future." The character became an instant pop culture icon and went on to host a music video show, star in New Coke ads, and appear on the cover of Newsweek, according to Deadline.

The new show's release date has yet to be announced but we do know where we'll be able to see it.

The pop culture drama about the world's first artificial intelligence TV personality, starring Matt Frewer, aired for two seasons between 1987 and 1988 on ABC. Frewer will now co-produce and reprise his role in the comeback show, airing on AMC

Headroom was known for his "snarky commentary and occasional stutter that made him seem like a CGI character" but it turns out Frewer regularly spent hours in the makeup chair to transform into the character. The reboot is being produced by Wood and Daniel Noah’s SpectreVision and All3Media, and will be written by Christopher Cantwell, the co-creator of the hit cable show "Halt and Catch Fire".

Wood is originally from Cedar Rapids where he grew up until the age of 7. The Headroom series will be a fun departure for Wood, who is best known for playing the character Frodo Baggins in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and its prequel.

Again, no release date has been set for the new "Headroom" series.
