Finding The Best Lakes For Swimming In The United States

To locate the 26 best lakes for swimming in the country, several factors were considered, including easy access to the water, lakes with clean water, lakes that provided an amazing view, and more.

The one lake in Wisconsin that made this exclusive list is a massive body of water, with a surface area of 22,300 square miles, but one specific area on the lake really stood out.

Lake Michigan made the list as one of the best swimming lakes in America, with Schoolhouse Beach, located at 1824 Washington Harbor Road in Washington, Wisconsin, being the primary reason why.

While most beaches known for their clear water are set along vast oceans, some, like Schoolhouse Beach, feature lakes as clear as glass and allow 'mirror-like reflections of the tall pines that surround this peaceful patch of Great Lake real estate.'

Another unique feature and popular selling point: Instead of sand, the beach is covered in limestone rocks smoothed by centuries of exposure to wind, snow, and ice.

Lake Michigan is the third-largest Great Lake, so many may find it tough to pinpoint great places to swim, but none are better than Schoolhouse Beach, which is now officially one of the best places to swim in the entire country.

It's on a massive lake, but it's one of the best in the country for many reasons, including the abundant limestone rocks that cover the beach.
