For the first time in a long time, people are panning a Star Wars movie. 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' was #1 at the holiday weekend box office, but only took in just over $100 million dollars. Experts predicted it would easily eclipse $150 million. So it's being called a flop. I saw the movie Sunday night, and I don't think it was a flop at all. But did it need to made in the first place?

First of all, I enjoyed a lot of Solo. Alden Ehrenreich, who plays a young Han Solo, was really good. Sure it was hard not to think about Harrison Ford while you were watching him at times, but Ehrenreich played the part well It was not just a Harrison Ford impersonation. You learn about the origins of Han's name, how he met Chewbacca, and of course, how he came to own the Millenium Falcon. Donald Glover was great as a young Lando Calrissian. And there was a very interesting cameo towards the end of the film that will have fans talking for sure. The action sequences were great, and the movie only bogged down a couple of times for me during it's run time. But as I wrapped up watching Solo, I thought to myself, did this movie need to be made?

I love Star Wars movies. I've seen all the new ones in theaters ever since Disney took over the franchise. But are we reaching a saturation point? Why didn't this Star Wars movie hit big like the others? I don't think a lot of people wanted to see anyone else portray Han Solo other than Harrison Ford. It's an iconic character in movie history. I get some fans not wanting to go down that road. Like I stated earlier, It was tough for me not to think of Ford sometimes too. We hardly had to wait for this movie too. 'The Last Jedi' was just in theaters last winter. That means we only had to wait about 6 months for a new Star Wars movie. Perhaps if the wait had been longer our anticipation to see Solo would have been higher.

Disney needs to tread carefully here and not risk doing something I didn't think was possible. Too much Star Wars. Too many movies. Too many new T.V. shows in the works. Several new theme parks set to open soon. Is it all too much? I never thought it would be and maybe I'm misreading the tea leaves. But to quote the movies, "I've got a bad feeling about this...."
