The tragic passing of Trooper Ted Benda occurred last week after an October 14th crash where Benda was involved one-vehicle accident just outside in Clayton County just outside Postville on highway 51. Today, he was laid to rest.

Trooper Benda is laid to rest

The funeral was held this morning at Waukon High School and was live-streamed so anyone could watch it (see video below). KCRG reports law enforcement agencies from across the state to support Benda and his family as he was laid to rest.

On the political end of the spectrum, Governor Reynolds ordered all flags in Iowa to be at half-staff from sunrise to sunset today, Wednesday, in honor of the late Benda. In Washington D.C, Rep. Ashley Hinson honored Trooper Benda.

This is the devastating loss of a father, a husband, a friend, a mentor, a dedicated public servant who made it his life’s mission to keep his community safe in Iowa.” Hinson said. “This tragedy is a reminder that brave law enforcement officers often sacrifice for a purpose far greater than themselves. -Rep. Ashley Hinson

For his funeral, the Waukon Police Department asked for residents to stand along the procession route to honor Trooper Benda.

Benda was laid to rest at Mount Olivet Cemetery, the burial service was private.
