Iowa Supreme Court To Postpone Certain Trials And Hearings
Due to Coronavirus, the Iowa State Supreme Court is putting on hold certain criminal trials and grand jury hearings, through at least July.
An order was issued by Chief Justice Susan Christensen noting that trials and hearings already underway will continue, but those that have not begun and are scheduled to begin over the coming weeks have been postponed.
Non-jury criminal trials resume June 1. These are trials without the presence of a jury required, and where a judge simply issues a ruling.
The resumption of criminal and grand jury trials has been pushed back to July 13.
Civil trials, which included divorces and lawsuits, are moved to June 15 while jury trials can resume August 3.
Bond hearings and initial court hearings will be done by video conference, all in an effort to slow coronavirus spread, according to Iowa's News Now.
