The number of people killed by coronavirus in Iowa has now surpassed 200.

The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) has released its daily update and I'm sorry to report there are 19 more deaths from COVID-19 in Iowa. That is the highest single-day death toll in the state of Iowa, where 207 people have now died from the virus. *The previous high was 14 deaths, announced April 30, according to KCCI.

Governor Reynolds announced 56 percent of the state's deaths thus far are residents of long-term care facilities in the state. Six of the newly-announced deaths are from Linn County, where 53 people have now died. Here is specific information on the 19 deaths reported by IDPH today:

  • Allamakee (1-Older Adult)
  • Black Hawk (3-One Middle-Age, One Older Adult, One Elderly Adult)
  • Dallas County (2-One Older Adult, One Elderly Adult)
  • Jasper County (1-Elderly Adult)
  • Linn County (6-One Middle-Age, Five Older Adults)
  • Polk County (2-One Adult, One Elderly Adult)
  • Tama County (3-All Elderly Adults)
  • Woodbury County (1-Elderly Adult)

During her press conference, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds announced 408 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the state's total to 10,111. Almost 80 percent of the new cases are from the 22 counties where the strictest restrictions remain in place. The total of people now recovered from the virus is 3,572.

The governor also announced that 261 of the 408 new positive tests are from Polk and Woodbury County. Those two counties now have 1,778 and 1,296 confirmed cases, respectively.
