The Most Popular Hair Style in Iowa Last Year is Retro and Lazy
Another year has begun and, as is a common tradition in January, we continue to get small "factoids" about the previous year. One such that I came across this week is both interesting and, kind of funny: our most popular hairstyle in Iowa for 2021. As a man with very little hair left, I have learned NOT to judge, but I will call in to question our hairstyle of choice for last year.
Iowa dudes and gals choose the same "favorite" hairstyle in '21
One thing that perplexes me a bit is how Iowa men and women selected the same favorite 'do from last year. This study comes from the Shane Co. and claims Iowans style of choice last year was the shag haircut. Last year, many hairstyles were inspired by social media sites like TikTok and Instagram.
The beauty of this hairstyle is it's lazy. And no I don't mean I think the shag haircut is lazy, no not at all... that's how it's described, in slightly different words, by at least one hair website. Also kind of lazy, this study. Why the Shag being chosen as Iowa's favorite by the Shane Co. stands out because literally, no other state selected shag, yet according to this study, both males and females chose it for Iowa.
The shag is described by Byrdie as "casual, mussy, and visually effortless". So I guess maybe it is kinda lazy. But in a good way. For the record, I think the shag haircut looks pretty good, though I don't see it on too many Iowa guys, except maybe one well-known Iowan...
So what are your thoughts on the ol' shag hairdo? Lazy? Fun? I just wish I had the hair to pull it off!
