Iowa-Owned Horse Will Run in Saturday’s Kentucky Derby
You don't have to know much about the sport of horse racing to know that Saturday is a huge day. It's Derby day! The 148th Kentucky Derby will be held on Saturday afternoon and many will tune in just for a taste. Some will watch the race. Others will look at the hats and outfits, or check out all the celebrities who are at Churchill Downs. But you might want to check the field this year as an Iowa-owned horse will make a run for the roses!
Mo Donegal will run from the #1 post on Saturday, according to KWWL. He is owned by Donegal Racing in Des Moines, Iowa. It is their third horse to run in the Kentucky Derby. The current odds on Mo Donegal to win? 10-1. Place your bets.
So how have Donegal Racing horses faired in the Kentucky Derby? Mo Donegal would give them their first win. KWWL reports that Paddy O'Prado finished third in 2010 and Dullahan finished third in 2012. Donegal Racing nearly didn't have a horse in this year's Kentucky Derby. Mo Donegal qualified with a win in the Wood Memorial Stakes. KWWL reports that he won by just one neck, and came all the way back from last place to win! Sounds to me like Mo Donegal really knows how to finish! We'll find out Saturday if that is enough to win the Derby!
