Iowa VERY Nice – One City Was Selected As The Nicest
You no doubt are familiar with the term "Iowa Nice" by now. You've unquestionably heard folks use it. Maybe it was after the derecho in 2020 when Iowans came together to help Cedar Rapids and surrounding area residents.
For folks in Iowa, or let's be honest, the Midwest in general, we pride ourselves on being friendly. With that in mind, the website neighbor.com did a study to find the most "neighborly" cities in the U.S.
When I think neighborly, I think nice. Iowa Neighborly has a few more syllables but works equally as well as "Iowa Nice", right? So in the neighbor.com study, one Iowa city made the top ten. Not bad. When you consider most Iowa cities are pretty small, or even tiny, one making a pretty prestigious list isn't bad.
Before I reveal the city, it's interesting to note that when covering the neighborly city study, CNBC was shocked there weren't more southern towns on the list. most all, as you'll see, are in the East or Midwest.
Iowa's lone appearance on the most neighborly city study... at number 10:
Des Moines
That's right, our capital and largest city was the 10th most neighborly in the country. Not bad, right? It's especially not bad when you factor in only one border state was selected for the list.
Of course, that neighbor was well represented. The top 10 were:
- Rochester, New York
- Madison, Wisconsin
- Provo, Utah
- Oxnard, California
- Grand Rapids, Michigan
- Raleigh, North Carolina
- Milwaukee, Wisconsin
- Poughkeepsie, New York
- Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
- Des Moines, Iowa
I mean, fist bump Wisconsin! Way to dominate with two spots! The full study included a top 25 which had more from New York and included a Minnesota city.
- Rochester, New York
- Madison, Wisconsin
- Provo, Utah
- Oxnard, California
- Grand Rapids, Michigan
- Raleigh, North Carolina
- Milwaukee, Wisconsin
- Poughkeepsie, New York
- Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
- Des Moines, Iowa
- San Jose, California
- Colorado Springs, Colorado

- Salt Lake City, Utah
- New Haven, Connecticut
- Portland, Oregon
- Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
- Honolulu, Hawaii
- Toledo, Ohio
- Springfield, Massachusetts

Personally, I think more Iowa towns could have been picked. But I'm a bit biased.
