For many athletes, it gets very little fanfare in the media. If you're not in the first few rounds, your name may be limited to little more than a blurb in a Google search or a footnote to a higher draft selection. But if you're Dubuque native Ian Moller, you probably don't care if you're not splashed across the ESPN homepage, you're still going to play Major League Baseball!
Ian Moller is a name to watch out for
So he's not the top draft pick. In fact, he was drafted as pick number 103 in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball draft. Who cares? Ian Moller gets to live his dream. Moller is heading to Arlington, Texas to join the Texas Rangers.
Moller is a catcher and comes highly touted. The Telegraph Herald reports Moller, who's coming right out of high school, is the number 14 overall prospect and the number 2 catcher. this out of all 2021 high school grads. He's also number 1 in both categories for all of the state of Iowa. Those stats are from Perfect Game USA, which is based in Cedar Rapids.
Moller is 6-foot-1, he weighs 207-pounds. He bats and throws right-handed. A graduate of Wahlert High in Dubuque, he is the highest ever draft pick to come from the city. Prior, Kevin Rhomberg was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 14th round of the 1977 draft.
