The title of Master Chef was on the line last night in the season finale of the FOX show. I'll admit it. I hadn't watched any of this season and I feel awful because we had an Iowan in the finale last night! Altoona resident Grant Gillon was one of three chefs hoping to take home the $250,000 grand prize and the title of Master Chef!

The contestants competing in last night's finale were Grant, Kennedy U., and Jennifer Maune. GoldDerby.com reports that the finalists had the task of creating the ultimate three-course meal for Gordan Ramsey and the other judges. Right away, Grant had a plan. Incorporate his Italian heritage with his Iowa roots. Up first was the appetizer round. Grant prepared Raviolo Al Uovo with Morel Cream Sauce, Truffle Butter, and Shaved Truffles.

The judges loved the flavor but thought that the pasta was a bit undercooked. Up next it was the entree round. Each chef had 60 minutes to prepare their dish. Imagine having to create these dishes in front of an audience and the judges! Grant cooks up Pork Loin Medallions with Salmoriglio Sauce, Agrodolce, Celery Root Puree and Beer Braised Fennel and onions. I'd never heard of half of the ingredients but it turned out amazing!

All three judges had nothing but rave reviews for the perfectly cooked pork. Only one round left...dessert! Grant decides to incorporate beer into his dish and bakes up a Torn Stout Cake with Coffee Stout Mousse, Chocolate Pizzelle, and Coffee Ice Cream. Grant received rave reviews.

Gordon Ramsey and the other judges agreed that Grant had the most consistent vision on all three dishes. Kennedy U. ended up overcooking one of her cakes and would clearly not be the champion. That left things between Grant and Jennifer, who also knocked her dessert out of the park! And the winner of MasterChef season 13 is.......Iowa's own Grant Gillon!!
