My wife Kori and I are the proud new parents of a 10-week-old puppy! If you read my story earlier this week about my family putting our 13-year-old family dog Lola down on Monday, I promise this wasn't some spur-of-the-moment, broken-heart decision. No other animal could replace Lola and she will always be in my heart.

When we bought our house one and a half years ago, we had always talked about bringing a dog into our lives, and it has finally happened!

Kori Fell In love

I will say...my wife was absolutely swindled yesterday (October 17) when we went to visit Winona for a second time. Before we arrived to hang out with her, I told Kori that "we are not bringing a dog home today. If we really like her again, we can wait until this weekend to get everything prepared."

I lost that battle... Of course, Kori fell in love with this little puppy and before I knew it, we were signing the adoption papers. If you've never adopted a dog before, first you have to fill out "pre-adoption" papers and send photos of your living arrangement. Last weekend we completed that process just to be prepared if we ever wanted to adopt a dog... well, 3 days later we signed the official adoption papers and are proud new dog parents.

Her Name

I'm sure she's a nice lady and she's a fabulous actress but we don't have some strange Winona Rider obsession. Kori and I moved to Iowa from Winona, Minnesota. When we met her for the first time, we were with a few of our friends at a pumpkin patch. Our friend Beth suggested the name Winona and we can call her Nona for short. For some reason, that name stuck.

Thankfully, my wife is able to work from home a few days a week and with my work schedule, I'm normally home sometime around lunch. We're both glad that she won't be stuck in a crate, for more than a few hours, a few days a week. Who knows though, she might actually love it in there. When we brought her home and got her crate set up, she jumped right in there to go to sleep. It was pretty cute actually.

Here's to not getting a ton of sleep for the next few weeks. So far it looks like she is doing okay hanging out with her mom today!
