When it comes to money, the answer for most Americans would be: I'd love to have MORE. Or simply, "Money? YES PLEASE!" But, when it comes to what we have, how do you manage? Are you good at saving it, or are you more likely to spend, and live paycheck to paycheck? Well, a new study finds Iowans struggle with money and saving it, more specifically. Since Cedar Rapids is Iowa's second-biggest city population-wise, sadly I guess that translates to having money woes.

Iowans are trying (they say) to save money

Earlier this year clickbait website Zippia has put out its list of the top New Years' resolutions by state and Iowa's top resolution is to save money. Now, that's was a smart and very timely resolution given the difficulties many faced in 2020. But to compare with our neighboring states, it's not a very common resolution. In fact, counting Iowa, only three of fifty states chose "wanting to save money" as its top resolution. The other two are North Dakota and Mississippi.

Overall, therapy was the most popular resolution, having been chosen by 12 states including our neighbors in Minnesota and Missouri. That's also very timely based on recent events. Behind therapy was losing weight - the most cliché resolution and dating also popped up a lot.

As we're inching closer and closer to yet another New Year, how are you doing with your financial goals? Or, resolutions in general? Seems after about March you stop hearing about resolutions until January.

For what it's worth, a second study from WalletHub found Iowa to be one of the least federally dependant states. Meaning, fewer people using federal assistance programs. By the way, to determine the results of its study, Zippia used Google Trends.
