I mean, is anyone really surprised?

According to a new article from Zippia, Iowa is one of the top three states that loves bacon the most. You might think it's because we're the number one pork producing state in the U.S. and the top state for pork exports, but nope! Although those things are true (according to the Iowa Pork Producers Association), this study is based solely on Instagram photos. The article reads:

"Ginny’s measure bacon enthusiasm by analyzing an impressive (and probably crispy) 64,000 Instagram photos. The photos were country-wide and tagged #food, #breakfast, #lunch and #dinner. The more of those pictures contained bacon, the more bacon-loving the state."

Iowa was number three on the list, and the only states to beat us were Nebraska and West Virginia. Rounding out the top five are Colorado and Connecticut. The states that like bacon the LEAST are Washington, Idaho, and Mississippi.

Zippia outlines a few other fun facts about bacon in their article. For example, did you know that the average American consumes around 18 pounds of bacon per year? Combined, we spend about five billion dollars a year on bacon, and we also produce over two billion pounds of bacon each year.

70% of bacon is eaten for breakfast, which makes sense because it's considered a breakfast food, but there are plenty of other ways to enjoy it. I like to add it to burgers or sprinkle pieces onto other foods, like cheese fries and mac & cheese. And don't forget about BLTs!
