Too much speed. Too much Oregon. That seemed to be the story for the Iowa Hawkeyes, who were unable to turn their #2 seed into a trip to the Sweet 16. That's not to say Iowa didn't battle like crazy, especially in the first half, but the Oregon Ducks were not going to be beaten. Not on this day.

This one got ugly. The two teams traded baskets much of the first half. It was tied at 46 before Oregon scored the last 10 points of the first half, as the Ducks seemed to scored at will throughout most of today's NCAA Tournament game. In the second half, Iowa pulled to within 10 at the 14:27 mark, 67-57. Iowa had the ball at that point when Joe Wieskamp tweaked the right ankle that he sprained 10 days ago, and turned the ball over. Joe would return, but that was pretty much the end of this game. From that point forward, Oregon poured it on. The Ducks move on to the Sweet 16 with a 95-80 win over the Hawks.

Super senior Luka Garza led the way for Iowa with 36 points and 8 rebounds. I would guess I'm not the only one who shed a couple of tears when he left the court as an Iowa Hawkeye for the final time.

It was a very rough day for Iowa's other starting senior, Jordan Bohannon, of Linn-Mar. JBo was held scoreless, with three assists.

Iowa was 8-25 from 3-point range. Luka Garza and Joe Wieskamp, who had 17 points, combined for six of Iowa's made 3-pointers.

Patrick McCaffery was Iowa's leading scorer off the bench with 10. Keegan Murray had 6, Joe Toussaint and Tony Perkins 5 each. Iowa's bench scored 27 points while starters CJ Fredrick, Connor McCaffery, and Jordan Bohannon didn't score a point. You don't even need to look at the scoreboard to know Iowa loses that type of game. Pretty much any team would.

All but six of Oregon's points were scored by starters. Four of their starters were in double figures at halftime.

Iowa now looks ahead to next season. As fans, we must look ahead too. To a season without Luka Garza and Jordan Bohannon. I'm not ready. Today, I'm just going to relish the memories they provided. Some of their great moments are in a photo gallery at the bottom of this story, below the photos of today's game.
