Italian food: it's so good, right? From the basics like spaghetti and meatballs to lasagna to something fancier I couldn't pronounce, American's love them some good ol' Italian food. But specifically talking about pasta, what's Iowa's favorite Italian dish? You want to know, and I have answers!

Iowans favorite Italian dish is one I don't think I've had

I'm not huge on carbs, to be honest, so maybe it's not a huge shock that I haven't had the number one pasta in Iowa. Before I reveal what it is, here is how the study was determined, the website The Loupe used Google Trends from the past year to determine how Iowan's are exploring pasta potential.

So our favorite pasta by that logic is...

Tortellini

Yes, tortellini.

If you're not familiar, tortellini is a ring-shaped pasta that's usually stuffed with a mix of meat. Sounds truly Iowan, no? Chef Boyardee tortellini is a popular staple for many households. That said, I cannot remember ever having tortellini myself. I probably have, but it doesn't stand out.

What other pastas do Americans enjoy?

The most popular pasta dish in America is Fettuccine Alfredo. 14 states chose it as their fav., based again on the Google Trend analysis. A distant number two, gnocchi and spaghetti. Both had five states, while Iowa's pick tortellini was chosen by three other states, making it number three on this list. Spaghetti and meatballs and squid ink pasta also made the list as tops in three states each.
