Iowa Drive In Theater Prepares for Season Opening
The arrival of tulips and daffodils are two welcomed signs of spring's arrival is Eastern Iowa. Another sure sign is the season opening of the only area drive-in movie theater, 61 Drive In near Maquoketa.
According to the 61 Drive In website, with a little luck, this Friday April 27 will be the target opening date for the 2018 season.
The drive-in move theater is a classic relic of times long past. The 61 Drive In is one of only a handful in the state of Iowa. And it makes me wonder why, when you consider how much fun it is to take the kids to the drive-in movies.
Going to the drive in theater ranks right up in the top five summer activities that all kids should experience. It stands side by side with bike riding, catching fireflies, camping out in the backyard and hosting a kool-aid stand.
If you've never been to the drive in as a kid, you should make a point of going once yourself. It may not make you feel like a kid again, but it is one of life's greatest little pleasures. Get there before that changes, you never know when the drive in could become extinct.
