Dating is such a fascinating and challenging... for lack of a better word, "thing" is it not? From online options to meeting people at work or through friends, it sounds so easy to fall in love, and it is in the movies. But in real life? Not so much.

A new study done by the Shane Company has some interesting findings into what kind of singles Iowa folks are looking for in terms of an age difference between themselves and their potential partner.

This study doesn't explore looks, money, or employment status. It focuses on one other key metric: age. Specifically, age difference. Before I give you the results, a personal antidote. I was born in Minnesota, married an Iowa girl, and I'm 5 and a half years older than her. Iowa and Minnesota had two very different results, which I'll get to in a moment.

The study says that Iowans prefer someone who's 1-5 years younger than them. The study was done over a 10-day period in February (Valentine's time) of this year. They looked at both genders as well. The study had about 3,500 responses.

Do you see any issues here? For one, we can't ALL date people younger than us. It's simply not possible. Also, how is it that both genders gave the same response of preferring younger partners?

For what it's worth, our neighbors had a different response. Minnesota, my home state, prefers a partner that's the same age. Wisconsinites prefer someone 6-10 years older according to the study while Nebraskans prefer someone 1-5 years older, as do people from Missouri.

Illinois was not part of the study, but you can see the rest of the results here.
