Des Moines Police are posting on Facebook that a mountain lion sighting in the city limit is not a hoax. Yes, a real mountain lion has been spotted in the city just a few hours west of us here in Eastern Iowa! The video confirms earlier reports of a mountain lion sighting in the city limits.

CBS2 News reported on Thursday morning that police are pouring over video from the area near Interstate 235 and 31st Street to see whether the report can be confirmed.

Snapshots taken from the video appear to show a mountain lion near some steps and a park bench.

If it turns out to be true, it wouldn't be the first time a mountain lion has been spotted in Iowa. Iowa police fatally shot one on the city's north side in October 2012.

Cops say residents are advised to be cautious with children and pets outdoors. If you spot a mountain lion, you should call 911...but only after you have made sure to get  safely far, far away.
