Hot take: bachelorette parties have gotten out of control.

You can still spend quality time with your gal pals before your wedding even if you don't drop thousands on a trip and custom outfits. But because bachelorette trips are the new norm, many brides are planning where they want to take their girls.

A map by Mental Floss shows where Illinois and Iowa brides are choosing to take their bachelorette trips these days. They looked at what's searched most in the U.S. between January 1st, 2025 and March 25th, 2025. Nationally, the trip categories are these:

• Winery
• Beach
• Glamping
• All-inclusive resort
• Cruise
• Destination spa
• National park

Iowa

Iowa brides prefer spas for the bachelorette celebration. Spas are the national favorite for bachelorette parties. It's important to note that those aren't the same category as destination spas (those are the ones with wellness activities, etc. that are in Morocco, Qatar, and Vietnam).

Our neighbor up north, Minnesota, is one of 2 states that chose destination spas.

Illinois

Illinois brides meanwhile are looking at all-inclusive resorts for their bachelorette trips.

All-inclusive resorts come in second behind spas for national bachelorette destination favorites. If you're wanting to go to abroad, they're a safer way to visit certain beautiful beaches.

Cruises are the third most-popular bachelorette destinations. Like the resorts, cruises often include the all-you-can-eat and drink packages, along with bachelorette-friendly activities like karaoke, clubs, and movies.
