Hy-Vee Food Stores announced on Monday a new store policy that now requires all employees of the grocery store chain to wear a mask.

KCRG TV reports that Hy-Vee said all of its employees at stores and distribution centers, will be required to wear a mask or other type of face cover while on the clock. The company has completed a program that provided each employee with at least one mask. Hy-Vee stores had already taken other measures against the spread of COVID-19 including the installation of large plastic barriers at checkouts and encouraging social distancing measures.

Hy-Vee also announced on Monday that the company will be giving its part-time and full-time frontline store employees a 10% bonus for hours worked between April 13th and May 3rd. It is the second time that Hy-Vee has offered the bonus, with the first time being in March. My wife Holly works at a Hy-Vee in Cedar Rapids and has been busier than any time in her career. I worry about her safety being out in the public the way she is during this pandemic. I commend Hy-Vee for taking measures to keep people safe, and rewarding people like my wife who go to work no matter what.
