Historic Marion Museum Reopens For Labor Day Weekend

Slightly over a year since the derecho caused its shutdown due to storm damage, the historic Granger House Victorian Museum, located at 970 10th St. in Marion is set to reopen this weekend, just in time for Labor Day weekend.

Iowa's News Now says wind caused major damage to the roof and porch. They actually haven't done any permanent exterior repairs yet (a temporary roof is in place), as part of being a property designated on the National Register of Historic Places, it involves finding someone to do those repairs. But inside, despite some minor water damage that they've since cleaned up and with the remainder of the repairs expected to be completed by late this fall or winter, it's been deemed safe by structural engineers to open to the public for visitors as of Saturday, September 4th.

For a little backstory on the significance of the Granger House, Iowa's News Now says "it is the only restored middle-class family home in the Cedar Rapids area. The 19th century home still contains many of the original furnishings." Their website states it is arranged to reflect the typical lifestyle of a 19th-century middle-class family in Cedar Rapids.

Tour hours for walk-ins or by appointment will be from 1-4 p.m and other times by appointment. Tickets for adults 13 and above are $10.00, children 3-12 are $5.00, and children under 3 are free.
