It's safe to say that 2016 has been an interesting year. And as it FINALLY comes to an end, we take a look back and realize just how strange it really was. Estately used Google Trends to determine what each state Googled more than any of the others in 2016. By the looks of some of these results, we had a lot going on this year.

Iowa's most searched thing on Google was a little dark. Iowans Googled "Islamic State/ISIS" more than any other state in 2016. That's pretty rough, when you compare it to Missouri's results of "McDonalds breakfast all day." Here's what some of Iowa's neighboring states searched:

  • Illinios- Craig Sager (sports reporter who passed in 2016)/ Cubs parade route
  • Minnesota- Prince (the singer/songwriter)
  • Nebraska- Pepe meme
  • South Dakota- Elie Wiesel (author, Nobel Prize-winner who passed in 2016)/How to Be Single? (2016 film)/ Arnold Palmer (the drink)
  • Wisconsin- Reince Priebus (Chairman of the RNC)

Other searches included things like "Pizzagate, Supermoon, Donald Trump, Zika Virus and 2016 Worst Year Ever?" to name a few. Check out the full list here. Hopefully 2017 will bring better results......especially for Iowa.
