In a move that will surprise some, the Green Bay Packers are set to release former Iowa defensive tackle, Mike Daniels. Green Bay signed Daniels to a four year $41 million extension back in 2015 when it appeared Daniels was on his way to NFL stardom. Now, he's about to be a free agent.

In the end, it was a history of recent injuries, a high price tag, and some new additions to the defense in Green Bay that made Daniels expendable. The Packers save around $10 million in cap space with his release. The Packers are happy with their depth up front with Kenny Clark leading the way. They also have former 3rd round pick Montravius Adams, and Dean Lowry. Lowry signed a three-year extension with the Packers yesterday.

Daniels was a fourth-round pick out of Iowa in 2012. He was a Pro Bowl alternate in 2016. He missed two games in 2017 due to a hip injury and then ended last year on the IR with a foot injury.
