Great American Popcorn Company Changing Name, Expanding To Sell Nationally

It's been a successful six years for the Great American Popcorn Company. So successful, in fact, they've decided to build a new facility and plan to sell their products on a national level. They're also changing the name of the business.

Great American Popcorn Company, which originated inside NewBo City Market as CR Popcorn Co, is now located across the street at 1121 3rd St. SE. If you love to satisfy your cravings for their more than 150 popcorn flavors, you'll be happy to hear that storefront isn't going anywhere. However, the company has big plans for the future.

First up is a name change. Great American Popcorn Company will become Almost Famous Popcorn and they're preparing to build a 3,000 square-foot facility off of 16th Ave. S.W. in Cedar Rapids. The new building will serve as a production house that will allow them to produce 30 bags of popcorn per minute... about 15 times the rate of what they can do by hand.

Owner Bill Reickhoff says the company will start selling products online in June. Online popcorn sales is a crowded field, but Reickhoff told Corridor Business that the facility will be nut-free and gluten-free:

This will be a big selling point on­line, and when we go out to sell in the grocery and convenience store segment. Popcorn is a naturally gluten-free snack.
