Gay Cartoon Characters Are Nothing New

The new season of the kids' PBS TV show "Arthur" premiered this week and shocked some viewers with the news that Arthur's (male) teacher was getting married...to a man!

Shocker! No one knew Mr. Ratburn was gay, but that's OK.

After all, cartoons reflect real life and being gay is part of the real world. And here's a news flash: some of the happiest and sweetest cartoon characters are also probably gay.

Yes, all is well, and all shall be well. After all, it's just a cartoon and gay cartoon characters are nothing new. We've always had reason to wonder about these fellows, haven't you?

And what about Foghorn Leghorn? Porky Pig? Let's not forget that Bug Bunny seemed to enjoy dressing like a girl bunny, too. (and yes, I know, cross dressing is not the same thing...)

So you see, gay cartoon characters are really nothing new, and nothing to fear. Just like in real life.
