If you ask me, I have the coolest dentist in town. Her name is Dr. Karen Besler, she owns Dental Associates of Cedar Rapids. Besides being a great dentist, she also enjoys giving back to the community here in Eastern Iowa.

Dr. Besler is one of the organizers of a two-day, community dental clinic happening this week in Cedar Rapids. The purpose of the event is to provide free dental care to low-income individuals here in the corridor. It's all happening this Friday and Saturday at the U.S. Cellular Center.

The clinic is called the Iowa Mission of Mercy. Doors will open each day at 6:00 a.m. and stay open until the clinic is full to capacity. "The line of people will remind you of a department store on Black Friday," Dr. Besler told me at my last appointment. She reminded me to tell people, "Get there early, because patients will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis."

A full-service field dental clinic will be set up with services including fillings, extractions, flippers (or partials) and dental cleanings. They don't do crowns, implants or full dentures, though. This is a great opportunity for people to get dental care who can't afford it or don't have insurance.

Again, the event is happening this Friday and Saturday at The U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids. For more information, check out www.iowadental.org

I want to salute Dr. Besler, Dr. Sara Stuefen, the local chair, and all of the organizers assisting with The Iowa Dental Foundation's Mission of Mercy.
