Babu Srinivasan, a contestant and history teacher from Texas, spent most of his money in advance.

On what, you ask? A $4,400 camera.

And what is his reason for spending that kind of money on a nice camera? To take pictures of his cat and put them on the Internet, of course! After all, according to Srinivasan, THAT is why the Internet was invented.
