Some things simply don't matter during the preseason in the NFL. If your team goes undefeated, don't plan your trip to the Super Bowl just yet. Remember, the Detroit Lions went undefeated in the preseason and then lost all 16 games during the regular season. Most players and coaches will tell you that just getting through the preseason healthy is the biggest win. But many players don't have spots guaranteed on the final 53-man roster. You better believe the preseason matters to them. It certainly matters to former Iowa running back Tyler Goodson.

Goodson was not drafted this spring when so many other top players heard their names called. Instead, he signed a free agent contract with the Green Bay Packers. Green Bay has two outstanding running backs in Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon. The battle in training camp has been for the third RB position. Sports Illustrated points out that the Packers have two players vying for that job. Patrick Taylor and Tyler Goodson. How do you impress coaches in the preseason? You make big-time, splashy plays. Tyler Goodson had one last night against Kansas City.

Iowa fans were treated to moves like that from Goodson many times. Will he stick in Green Bay? If so, he'll have to prove he can do more than just run the ball. He'll need to pass block. He may have to play special teams. One thing is for sure. Goodson is making it difficult for coaches to leave him off the final 53-man roster. NFL teams have to have their rosters cut down and finalized by next Tuesday.
