There are plenty of places in Cedar Rapids to get a burger, but one of my favorites is BurgerFiend. I was sad when they closed down their location on Center Point Road NE in Cedar Rapids back in July of 2021, but let's face it. The last couple of years has been tough on local restaurants. Now, the former burger joint building is undergoing renovations and will soon transform into a new restaurant.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that BurgerFiend owner Omar Ingram and marketing manager Shawn Lekin are turning the old burger spot into a restaurant called the Breakfast Barn and Lunch House. Lekin told the Gazette that the remodeling of the inside of the building is continuing as we speak. The new-look will feature custom booths, modern wood and tin paneling, and a more closed kitchen. As for food, the menu will include broasted chicken, an 'All-Star Barn menu' of favorites, and homestyle recipes.

Lekin told the Gazette that the decision to close BurgerFiend was a tough one, but said that they had to choose between the two Cedar Rapids locations. The other BurgerFiend location remains open at 2020 16th Ave. SW. The owners said that they expected a surge of business coming out of the pandemic but it simply didn't happen, so they closed the Center Point Road location. They had planned on leasing the building to a Mexican restaurant, but when those plans fell through they decided on the remodel and reopening.

The new Breakfast Barn and Lunch House plan to hold a grand opening in either late January or early February.
