A fire Wednesday in Marion caused significant damage, and not just to a family home.

According to the Cedar Rapids Gazette, "A family dog perished and a home was severely damaged after a fire ripped through a residence in Marion on Wednesday."

The incident happened at 2805 Third Avenue around 6:32 p.m. Firefighters arrived and were able to successfully put the fire out. There were no residents inside but the story indicates the family dog was found dead.

No word at this time to what caused the fire. Officials are investigating the incident and when we hear more details we will provide updates. As a result of the fire the home is now a total loss.

Our heart goes out to the family. Not only did they lose their home but they also lost the family pet. Just a sad story all around and I hope for the best moving forward for this Eastern Iowa family.
