EXCLUSIVE: Downtown Cedar Rapids Bar Closed Down
The tavern that has long stood at 112 2nd St. in downtown Cedar Rapids has closed it doors as of today.
Red's Public House was a funky, gritty drinking hangout for many downtown white and blue collar workers. The place that featured a few sidewalk cafe tables and chairs has posted a sign on it's front door, but little information about the reason for it's closing has been released.
My sources say it's possible that Red's would reopen with a complete interior makeover under new ownership and management in early December.
As of this writing Red's Facebook page and website still lists a complete menu and schedule of activities. But those sites will likely be shuttered very soon.
Red's was a bit unique from other area establishments, as it was not a "fancy" high-end downtown bar with lavish, expensive drinks. It was much more of a comfortable joint for those who wouldn't want to be reminded that they have to wear a suit and tie at the office.
We'll keep you posted on any news about a re-opening. But as for now, Red's is closed.
