Iowa’s Favorite Ethnic Food is Really Not That Ethnic
This is some good old-fashioned patriotism right here. USA, USA!! A new survey from YouGov asked people all over the world to name their favorite type of cuisine. For example, Mexican, Italian, etc. Turns out we have a sort of uninspired favorite.
We love... American food?
Starting with just us in the good ol' U.S of A, the #1 answer in the USA was 'AMERICAN CUISINE.' Yep, we love our own cuisine more than any other country. So that is what? Foods like hot dogs, hamburgers, fast food, and barbecue. (Hard to disagree, right?!)
91% of Americans said they like it. How did that compare with the rest of the world? They think it's just OK. Only 68% of foreigners who've tried our food think it's good.
The ten most popular types of food in the USA are:
- American - not a stretch if you think about it.
- Italian
- Mexican
- Chinese
- Spanish
- Japanese
- Greek
- French
- Thai
- Caribbean
So again, those are our favorites in just the United States. Worldwide, it's a very different story.
The ten most popular cuisines WORLDWIDE are:
- Italian
- Chinese
- Japanese
- Thai
- French
- Spanish
- American, which ended up in 7th place. Guess it's nice just being nominated.
- Mexican
- Indian
- Turkish
Food from Finland finished in last place. But um, what is 'Finnish food' anyway? I think I'll stick with a hot dog, too thank you very much. Also, how is Mexican so low on this list? Between our love for Mexican cuisine in the U.S., and I'd imagine in Canada too, how did they score below American cuisine? Seems odd.
