Whether you're into "cover bands" or originals, and many have strong opinions on the subject, I'm fairly certain of one thing. Supporting live and local music in any form is a great thing for the community.

A lineup of acts looking to erase the stigma against "cover bands" in Cedar Rapids has come together to put on a show for you this weekend. "An Evening Under The Covers" is in its second year, bringing together six of the best rock bands in Eastern Iowa. Stop by the Chrome Horse Saloon at 1201 3rd St. SE in Cedar Rapids this Saturday. Doors open at noon, and the music starts at 12:30.

Featured on the bill will be Slap 'n Tickle, Flex, Four Day Creep, Speedboat Jesus, Bassackwards and Ratchet Jaw.

But that's not all. NewBo City Market is giving Eastern Iowa's women in music their day on Saturday as well, with the first ever "NewBo Women's Music Festival". Learn more about that event here.

A lineup featuring the likes of Alisabeth Von Presley, Boot Jack Duo, the Tanya English Band, Awful Purdies, Alicia Monee, Oceana Band, Naomi Hulteng and more will perform at the festival between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Whatever your style or preference, it's going to be a great weekend to show your support for local bands.
