On one of the busiest travel days of the year, a winter storm system is bringing snow, wind, and rain to the Midwest. Areas of northwest Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Minnesota are in for the most snow while Eastern Iowa is getting hit with high winds.

Some residents in Eastern Iowa may have seen a little wintery mix as the cold air moved in overnight. But the real danger today is going to be the winds. They could gust as high as 60 miles per hour! The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for most of the KHAK listening area through 6 p.m. tonight.

High wind warnings are rare. It's only the sixth time that Cedar Rapids has been in one since 1986. Tree branches, trash cans, and other items will be blown around very easily today. Not to mention any Christmas decorations that you may have gotten put up when the weather was nice. High profile vehicles like semi-trucks will also have a tough time traveling today too.
