Iowans looking to escape the cold of Iowa late this fall and winter are getting a new option for a non-stop flight from Cedar Rapids to Florida.

Allegiant has announced they're adding a flight from the Eastern Iowa Airport to Sarasota Bradenton International Airport starting on November 19. It's on the west-central coast of Florida, about an hour from Tampa. The flight is one of 22 new routes announced by Allegiant Tuesday morning.

The Des Moines International Airport is also adding a new direct flight to Florida. This one will fly from Iowa's capital city to Palm Springs International Airport. Those flights will start on November 18.

Introductory rates for the flights from the Eastern Iowa Aiport to Sarasota Bradenton International Airport start at just $49 while the Des Moines to Palm Springs one-way fares begin at $59. According to a press release from Allegiant, seats, and dates are limited and not available on all flights. Tickets must be purchased by August 11 for travel by May 17, 2022.

In checking out a few flight dates on the Allegiant site this morning, I found plenty of $49 seats out of Cedar Rapids, except around the holidays. The return flight will likely cost you a bit more but with gasoline near $3 per gallon, these deals look especially good. You can take a look and rates and plan your Florida flyaway here.

Allegiant also announced new flights to Florida from a variety of other airports in the Midwest, including Flint, Michigan, Indianapolis, Indiana, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Peoria, Illinois, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Springfield, Illinois, and Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.
