An employee with the Iowa Department of Transportation, has been seriously injured in a traffic accident in Northeast Iowa.


The Dubuque County Sheriff was called out just before 7:30am Thursday, to the accident site, which was near the intersection of Highway 20 and Cox Springs Road on the southeast edge of Peosta.

A D.O.T. vehicle, along with a cement truck driven by 27 year old Dakoda Elledge, were both eastbound on Highway 20, when the D.O.T. vehicle slammed into the rear of the cement truck.

The driver of the state-owned vehicle, whose name has not yet been released, was initially taken to an area hospital, then transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, to be treated for life-threatening injuries.

The cement truck, owned by Horsfield Construction, was being driven by 27 year old Dakoda Elledge; he was not injured.

Assisting the Dubuque County Sheriff, were the Peosta/Centralia Fire and Ambulance, Epworth Police Department, and the Iowa Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division.
