A man wanted on a series of charges in Cedar Rapids has been arrested more than 250 miles from the city, thanks to the work of a number of law enforcement agencies.

Just after midnight on the morning of Sunday, June 11, 2023, officers with the Cedar Rapids Police Department were called to the 1300 block of 1st Ave. S.E. When they arrived, they found 23-year-old Kenyauta Vesey-Keith suffering from gunshot wounds, in what police called a targeted attack. Keith later passed away at a local hospital.

Just four days later, Cedar Rapids police investigators reached out to the Northern Iowa Fugitive Task Force for help locating Denzel D. Wilson, a suspect in the shooting.

Officers with the task force were able to determine that Walker had fled Iowa. At that point, a number of U.S. Marshal fugitive task forces from other areas of the country became involved.

According to the Cedar Rapids Police Department, it was determined in early August that Wilson was likely in Indiana. That's when the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force in northern Indiana became involved.

U.S. Marshals were able to determine Wilson was in a building in the 4000 block of Van Buren Street in Gary, Indiana. On Monday, August 7, just after 8 a.m., U.S. Marshals descended on the building.

Wilson, 23, was arrested without incident and taken to the Lake County Indiana Jail. He's awaiting extradition to Iowa where Wilson faces four charges. They are First-Degree Murder, Use of a Dangerous Weapon in the Commission of a Cime, Going Armed with Intent, & Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.
