A major heat wave is set to hit Eastern Iowa just in time for the Father's Day weekend. Needless to say, your bbq with dad just got a little hotter. Heat and humidity will build today and givest our hottest stretch of weather in nearly five years.

The culprit? High pressure will push over the Midwest pushing our chance of precipitation away to the north and leaving us with extreme heat through at least Monday. Just how hot is it going to get? High temperatures will climb well into the 90's with heat indices, or the feel like temperature, at 100 or higher. The nighttime lows will also be warm, dipping only into the 70's. Heat advisories will likely be issued by The National Weather Service.

While we'll all likely complain about the heat, it can be a very dangerous time too. If you have to be outside, make sure and stay hydrated. There will be a breeze this weekend so that may provide some relief. According to statistics, heat waves like the one we'll see this weekend can be deadly.

According to data from the National Weather Service, the number one weather-related fatality in every state is HEAT. Make sure and check on friends and neighbors that don't have air, especially older residents.
